Pedagogy for Change programme

12 months

The 12 month Pedagogy for Change programme offers unique opportunities to face some of the problems and realities of our times, to join in action and solidarity with the people of our world. Our programmes contain training in essential life skills. Essential not only for development work in different parts of the world but also for living a meaningful life in the 21st century.

  • It is about ensuring the experiences you gain have a lasting impact on the people whose lives you touch.
  • It is about creating peace and development between people by being honest, open and incorruptible.
  • It is about deciding to learn new things, being constantly curious and interested in knowing the latest news about current events, world politics, and scientific progress.
  • It is essentially about working together, finding common ground and helping to secure the abilities of others to be productive in society. Coming together with many different but likeminded people can make the above a reality.

You need to be a citizen of the Europen Union to participate in this programme.

Programme outline

Period One (10 months)

WORK EXPERIENCE
After a thorough introduction to the world of social education & pedagogy, you will get a training position at an non-traditional school or care home that specialises in caring for children and youth, who for different reasons benefit from “another kind of school”.

Here, you will take part in the care and development of the students at the school, alongside professional staff. Your role is to contribute to the educational programmes with your talents, skills and interests.

STUDIES & COURSES
We take a hands-on approach to teaching and learning, where the participants use a mix of personal studies, group discussions and real-life experiences in their learning process.

Once a month you will meet with your team for a week’s intensive studies and courses, where you focus on the headline of the month, for example “The Teacher and School in the 21st Century” or “Eco-literacy and Stewards of Tomorrow”. You will make presentations, exhibitions and use different forms of media to evaluate and share what you have learnt.

Period Two (2 months)

EXPLORE THE EUROPEAN REALITY
The last two months are dedicated to exploring Europe together with your team, under the headline “Learn to Travel – Travel to Learn”.

You will study the subject “Europe’s legacy” where you will explore the continent’s past and present, discussing issues such as race, gender and identity.

You will travel in Europe with your team for six weeks. You will meet diverse groups of people and organisations, make interviews to compile a patchwork of impressions about contemporary Europe – and the legacy we leave for the future.

SPECIFIC COMPETENCES GAINED

B-CERTIFICATE IN PEDAGOGY
Apart from all the studies throughout the programme, you will gain a B-Certificate in Pedagogy through online learning with ISET Higher Institute of Learning in Mozambique. Five subjects are part of the certificate.

DANISH LANGUAGE
The students and professionals with whom you work are Danish and you work in a Danish setting. Therefore, although many in Denmark people speak English, there is a need for learning to communicate in the Danish language to gain the best possibilities to communicate with the students and be part of their development.
